Artist Statement:
In my photography, I constantly see similarities between close up macroscopic images and larger scale photos of more life size settings. For example, a close-up picture of a jagged rock from the right angle can look like a massive cliff. I thought that it would look interesting to create images were I could take a close-up photo of things one sees in their home and add people interacting with these settings in a life size way. In the prosses of creating my images for my zine, I began with thinking of extreme outdoor activities like snowboarding, kayaking, and rock climbing as I wanted to invoke a stark contrast of a seemingly mundane setting being interacted with in an extreme way. I created my drawings in Illustrator using the tracing tools and skills that we learned in class. This was my first-time using Illustrator and I am rather proud of how my images turned out. Once I had all of my illustrations, I carefully created natural looking settings around my house that would compliment the illustrations. In the prosses of taking the images I paid attention to things like the scale of my characters in the setting and where the sources of light were coming from in relation to how I drew my characters. The final step was to Photoshop the drawings and images together and add some small details that would make the images pop like snow flying off the snowboarder and appropriate shadows.
